How do dentures stay in place?

Dentures are made in a dental laboratory. They are shaped to fit the gums so precisely that a vacuum is created. This, combined with the support of the jawbone, keeps them firmly in place. If the dentures become loose, your dentist can have them adjusted in the lab. A partial denture may also be attached with small clasps. This is called a frame denture.

Implant-retained dentures (overdentures)

There is another way to stabilize dentures: by placing implants in the jawbone. The full denture is then clicked onto the implants, so you can take it out when needed, but it stays firmly in place when worn. This type of denture is also called an overdenture.
